Another Close Generic Congressional Ballot

The Democrats have retaken a small lead on the Generic Congressional ballot despite the Republicans mounting a pretty amazing comeback on  the question of trust on government ethics and corruption.

From Rasmussen Reports:

Democrats are now back on top of the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending May 26.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 41% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Democrat in their district’s congressional race if the election were held today, while 39% would choose the Republican instead.

The Generic Congressional Ballot is one of several measures that capture the general public mood. It often shows trends that are similar to the president’s job approval ratings and the number who believe the country is generally heading in the right direction.

The pollster is referring to President Obama’s approval rating, which took a hit earlier and throughout the month, but then has made slow headway recovering almost to the prior approval of above 50%. However, ticket-splitting just isn’t what it used to be. I will be demonstrating this as well as the narrowing congressional battlefield in the days to come – so of course make sure that you follow to receive that analysis – but the point I can stress now is that the President’s approval rating may not have as much of an impact as it typically has had in the past regarding House elections.

But you will just have to wait until I get that one out.
