People’s Pundit Daily aggregates and averages the latest data on party affiliation and ideology by U.S. states to plot an interactive map and sortable table.
There are currently 20 states that are solidly Republican (6.1-point or greater advantage), Republican (5.1 to 6-point advantage) or leaning Republican (3.1 to 5-point advantage), juxtaposed to 14 solidly Democratic, Democratic or leaning Democratic states.
The remaining 16 states–which range between 3 points in either a Republican or Democratic direction–are competitive. Nationwide, 43% of all U.S. adults identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, while 40% identify as Republican or lean Republican. That disparity is largely due to a disproportionate number of the most populous states, including California, New York and Illinois, identifying as Democratic.
