(Photo by Joe Burbank-Pool/Getty Images)The George Zimmerman murder trial for the 2012 shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is underway in Seminole County, Florida. Defense attorney Mark O’Mara is representing Zimmerman and the lead prosecutor for the state of Florida is Bernie de la Rionda.
Zimmerman faces second-degree murder charges for the shooting of Martin, who was unarmed at the time. The defendant has claimed that he shot Martin in self-defense, citing Florida’s “Stand Your Ground”law.
During a pre-trial hearing, Judge Nelson ruled that photos alleging drug use and gun ownership by Martin would not be admissible in the defense’s opening statements.
