I would argue that the GOP has, now, a greater opportunity to repeal and replace Obamacare more than ever. However, what has been the replacement plan? The truth is, we do not know, and have not heard one since 2010.
The very real implication of the IRS running Obamacare is just now dawning on the American people, and that is our fault.
Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint appeared on Fox News’ “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” last night.
Again, they discussed the dangers of the IRS, the scope of reach the agency will now have into every single American life, but no plan from the head of Heritage to replace the horrendous act. Remember, Obamacare only held constitutional muster because the Chief Justice deemed the “shared responsibility payment” to be a tax.
I always find it to be hilarious when said aloud – “shared responsibility payment” – it is a bit misleading. It sounds as if we are all doing our civic duty to take care of people who refuse to do their own civic duty in the first place. Of course, there is genuine needs that require attention, but the actual replacement plan offered by the GOP prior to the passage – if we can call it that – which would have dealt with the major healthcare reformations at the center of the debate.
Pre-existing condition, age of benefits, transfers, prescription drug donut holes, all could have been addressed without a major overhaul. In fact, the market itself was ironing out the wrinkle of pre-existing condition coverage issue. Naturally, we haven’t heard much of that fact – that competition was already forcing insurance companies to offer the option.
On Greta, Demint said:
Obamacare puts the IRS on steroids. It opens the door for the IRS to come into all of our lives.
DeMint mentioned how more than 2,000 new IRS employees are charged with implementing President Obama’s health care law. They will be closely examining the incomes of Americans as well as business operations, and as a businessman, this is concerning.
