Vatican says 100,000 Christians Killed Annually in Middle East

Christians Targeted in Deadly Egypt Blast
A car exploded last November in front of a Coptic Christian church in Alexandria, Egypt, as worshipers emerge from a New Year’s Mass, killing more than 20 people and prompting a clash with Muslims at a nearby mosque.

Tolerance seems to be a one way street when 100,000 Christians are killed annually because of their faith, according to the Vatican reports. Human rights groups claim that anti-Christian violence is on the rise in muslim countries like Pakistan, Nigeria and Egypt. Vatican spokesman, Monsieur Silvano Maria Tomassi, said Tuesday in a radio address to the United Nations Human Rights Council:

Credible research has reached the shocking conclusion that an estimate of more than 100,000 Christians are violently killed because of some relation to their faith every year.

Tomassi also said:

Other Christians and other believers are subjected to forced displacement, to the destruction of their places of worship, to rape and to the abduction of their leaders, as it recently happened in the case of Bishops Yohanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yaziji, in Aleppo [Syria].

Persecution.Org, said the persecutions of Christians have been on the rise in places like Africa and the Middle East over the last decade. Jeff King, the group’s president, told FoxNews.com.

Two-hundred million Christians currently live under persecution. It’s absolutely on the rise. It’s easing in the old Communist world and it’s rising in the Islamic world.

Specifically, countries like Egypt, Pakistan and Nigeria, have all seen especially dramatic increases in intolerance. The first major killing spree in recent years happened between 1998 and 2003, when he claims 10,000 Christians were murdered in Indonesia alone during those years.

A Nigerian Christian leader was killed last March when Muslim militants forcefully broke into his home and shot him. Two members of the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram, shot Faye Pama Mysa, a Pentecostal pastor and secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, right in his home this past Wednesday. The killing happened subsequent to Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, declaring a state of emergency because of ongoing attacks.

King also highlighted the recent event when young Christian girls were forced into sex slavery in Bangladesh. More than 140 children were rescued from Islamic training centers over the last year. The majority of the girls were targeted because of their Christian religion.

John Eibner, CEO of Christian Solidarity International, has raised grave concerns over what he calls “religious cleansing” in Syria. He told FoxNews.com:

Religious minorities are under constant threat in Syria. If things continue as they have been for the past two years in Syria, with an increase in religious cleansing, it’s reasonable to think that there will be no more Christian communities or other religious minorities in the near future.

Eibner added:

Anti-Christian violence is on the increase throughout the world, especially throughout North Africa and the Middle East. It’s hard for me to say with precision what the numbers are, but without doubt anti-Christian violence is on the increase.

Dinah Pokempner, general counsel for Human Rights Watch, was not able to independently verify the Vatican’s figure, but said:

I think there’s little doubt that every week, every day, someone in the world is being persecuted – even to the point of losing their life – based on their religion. Persecution is a daily event on the basis of religion. This persecution affects Christians just as it does Muslims, Jews, Bahá’ís and people of other faiths.

Jane Zimmerman, the U.S. State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, said in a statement that:

While I’m unfamiliar with the methodology that was used to reach that number, we have certainly followed numerous cases in recent years in which Christians and others of many faiths have been attacked or killed on account of their religious beliefs. Whatever the numbers, no one should die for professing or practicing their faith, whatever that faith is. The United States firmly supports the freedom to profess and practice one’s faith, to believe or not to believe, and to change one’s beliefs. As Secretary Kerry said on May 20, religious freedom ‘is a birthright of every human being.’

Commentary from the Blogger:

Well, of course, Zimmerman’s rhetoric is all well and good, but the fact remains that this administration has made it a policy to be hostile to Christians and overtly sensitive to Islam. Islam, of course, is not a tolerant community, if it ever was a tolerant religion at all.

Where are the moderates we keep hearing about? If Barack Obama knew that the attack on the Benghazi complex was perpetrated by Islamic terrorists, which we now know he did, then what was the point of apologizing to the Islamic world at the United Nations?

To be sure, muslims in the Middle East die as a result of U.S. policy. The difference is that innocents are not dying because of who they are in the Middle East unless they are killing each other. A muslim family can feel safe to bring their children to America and they can rest assure that their children will not be executed by the school administration because they are muslim.

Can we say the same for the Middle East if it is an American family? The argument that aims to justify terrorism because they cannot match military might is patently false and based on false presuppositions.

Firstly, because they are nationally weak from killing each other and their inability to provide and preserve freedom we are supposed to give them special treatment in the anarchical international system? That is absolutely preposterous.

Secondly, if Egypt for instance, hypothetically obtained regional hegemony to the point that the United States could not challenge their security, thus ensuring their survival in the international system, then they would still be killing Christians by the thousands. The reason is simple. This is not about international existence, equality or tolerance; it is simply about hatred and radicalism that produces intolerance.

Liberals, such as those who follow Barack Obama, never ceased to amaze me with their stupidity and ignorance. Do you think that your almost-treasonous acts aimed at making them feel more comfortable for being muslim will save you from their judgement? It won’t.
