Best of Both Worlds Healthcare Reform: Uniting Universal Coverage and Personal Choice

I by no means endorse this plan as the best way to provide the best care for the most people. Indeed, that’s the heart of our health care debate. However, I do recognize that for too long, healthcare reform efforts – including the Affordable Care Act – have pitted our core values against one another. The following plan proposed on AEI looks at the following questions that I would agree, even if you do not agree, are at the heart of the debate as well.

Universal coverage or personal choice? Affordability or quality? Fairness or compassion?

According to the Best of Both Worlds plan, Americans shouldn’t have to choose. And under a Best of Both Worlds plan, they wouldn’t have to.

The Best of Both Worlds envisions a post-ACA health care system that covers all Americans, protects the poor and sick, and sustains high-quality, affordable, personal care. It combines what markets do best with policies to protect the most vulnerable.

Best of Both Worlds is both a detailed policy proposal and a statement of values. It seeks to answer a simple question: If we could design a health care system from scratch, what would we build, and why? The materials on this page will help you answer that question for yourself. Watch the video, read the summary, dive into the report, explore real-life scenarios, and see how your costs would compare.

Below is the Best of Both Worlds plan “At A Glance” – in other words – a two-page PDF that lists briefly outlines the plan’s policy proposal and the values it hopes to be guided by. The entire full proposal PDF follows immediately below “At A Glance” – which can read know, or download to review at a later time. It will certainly be worth the time, indeed.
