With all of the talk on how the GOP is over-playing their hand on the recent Obama scandals, there is little discussion on how the gun control agenda from the Democrats has backfired – and it has indeed.
A recent survey has found that on the issue of gun control, Americans trust the GOP 43% to the Democrats 41%, with 17% undecided. A crisis, further overreach, among other considerations can easily move these numbers back to the Democrats; but so far, it has backfired. From Rasmussen:
Democrats’ efforts to strengthen gun control laws may not have had the political impact they’d hoped for: Voters are becoming more likely to trust Republicans than Democrats on the issue.
Also, a plurality of 51%, believe that expanding background checks will not curb gun violence in America. The Democrats seem to have an innate disadvantage of philosophy, as more Americans believe that gun laws should be the business of the state and not the federal government. Although close, 36% – 34%, these numbers have remained steady throughout the past couple mass shooting events.
