Virginia’s gubernatorial hopefuls on Saturday wasted no time going on the attack in their first debate at a posh resort here in western Virginia.
Republican state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli depicted Terry McAuliffe, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee, as a Washington insider who’s out of touch with the needs of ordinary Virginians and has a questionable jobs creation record. McAuliffe sought to paint Cuccinelli as a radical on social issues, pointing to previous comments he’s made abortion and gay marriage.
