Florida Governor Rick Scott meets with his team and officials in preparation for Hurricane Irma in Jacksonville on September 7, 2017.

Florida Governor Rick Scott warned residents and visitors Friday the latest forecast models show Hurricane “Irma is more devastating on it’s current path.” He said the Category 4 storm packing maximum sustained winds of 150 mph will impact the Florida Panhandle and no one should be complacent.

“I cannot stress this enough. Do not ignore evacuation orders,” Gov. Scott said. “Remember, we can repair your home. We cannot repair your life.”

Massive Storm Surges are expected between 3 and 10 feet in coastal areas.

The latest forecast models aggregated from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) show Hurricane Irma shifting westward as the worst case scenario is now the most-likely. It will likely travel right up the spine of the Sunshine State and impact every major city.

Forecasters anticipate the storm could pick up strength as it prepares to make landfall in South Florida, as the pressure has not risen as officials hoped. The pressure remaining low indicates the storm is still fundamentally strong.

“If you live in any evacuation zones and you’re still at home, leave!” Gov. Scott warned at the news conference. “We can’t save you once the storm hits.”

FEMA Administrator Brock Long said at a news briefing on Friday parts of Florida would be out of electricity for days if not longer. When the storm passes, officials estimate more than 100,000 people may need shelter.

“Hurricane Irma continues to be a threat that is going to devastate the United States in either Florida or some of the southeastern states,” Administrator Long said.

Bryan Norcross, a senior hurricane specialist at The Weather Channel, stressed Gov. Scott’s comments comparing Hurricane Irma to Andrew, which devastated Florida 25 years ago.

“The effect of Irma on the state of Florida is going to be much greater than Andrew’s effect,” said Norcross, who was a local television meteorologist hailed as a hero during Andrew. “We’re dealing with an entirely different level of phenomenon. There is no storm to compare with this. Unless you go way back to 1926.”

Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Penn, a moderate and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, said Thursday he will retire after 7 terms in the House of Representatives. The announcement is welcome new for conservatives and supporters of President Donald Trump.

Mr. Dent, the co-chair of the moderate Tuesday Group, has repeatedly criticized President Trump, including for the firing former FBI director James Comey and his response to the violence in Charlottesville. He was also difficult during the health care negotiations and other big issues, which drew a conservative primary challenger.

“I’ve worked to instill stability, certainty and predictability in Washington. I’ve fought to fulfill the basic functions of government, like keeping the lights on and preventing default,” he said in a statement. “Regrettably, that has not been easy given the disruptive outside influences that profit from increased polarization and ideological rigidity that leads to dysfunction, disorder and chaos.”

But the truth is that Rep. Dent–who didn’t vote for President Trump–clearly sees the handwriting on the wall. Polling, though early, indicated he was going to lose the primary in a state President Trump carried in November. It was the first time a Republican carried the state since 1988.

Mallory Quigley of the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life group, said Rep. Dent’s retirement was “a huge victory for the pro-life movement,” adding his “positions were dramatically out of step with the people of his district and he clearly knew it.”

The PPD Big Data Poll in May indicated upwards of 30% of Republican voters were willing to sit out the 2018 midterm elections if the party didn’t make good on its promise to repeal ObamaCare. A month later, they indicated they would support primary challengers if their representative opposed measures.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott told residents to know their evacuations zones and, as Hurricane Irma barrles toward the state, more evacuations are being ordered.

“If you live in any evacuation zones and you’re still at home, leave!” Gov. Scott warned Floridians at a news conference Thursday. “Do not try to ride out this storm … we can’t save you once the storm hits.”

“This is a catastrophic storm that our state has never seen.”

At least 500,000 people in South Florida now face evacuation orders, adding to the estimated 31,000 who left the Florida Keys as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Evacuations are underway in Palm Beach County. County officials issued mandatory evacuations for zones A, B, and E. Voluntary evacuations are in effect for Zone C.

The western Palm Beach County communities in Zone E including Belle Glade, South Bay, and Pahokee were issued a mandatory evacuation order beginning Friday at 10 a.m. Officials ask those who are leaving to follow the evacuation routes mapped out online.

The U.S. Senate on Thursday voted 80 to 17 to approve a measure combining a short-term suspension of the debt ceiling with Hurricane Harvey relief funds. The unpopular two-for-one package now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives where conservatives are vowing to fight it.

All 17 “No” votes were Republicans, many of whom feel slighted by President Donald Trump who negotiated the deal with Democratic leaders on Wednesday.

The package would fund the government and extend U.S. borrowing authority through Dec. 8, as well as provide an initial $15 billion for Harvey in Texas. While the deal avoids a government shutdown at the end of the month, it sets up another fight over spending and the U.S. national debt in December.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., initially wanted a longer-term debt-ceiling increase, but House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., were the beneficiaries of the meeting Wednesday.

People’s Pundit Daily (PPD) has confirmed with multiple sources that the terms of the deal completely blindsided Republican leadership. President Trump has become fed up with Republicans lack of action on key agenda items and, instead, has decided to reach out to Democrats in an effort to get things done.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kty., reluctantly pushed that deal to the floor of the U.S. Senate on Thursday afternoon. However, the future of the bill is less certain in the House, which a day earlier overwhelmingly approved another measure that only appropriated funding for Harvey relief.

Rep. Mark Walker, R-N.C., chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the largest bloc of conservatives in the House, wrote to Ryan on Thursday opposing the measure and warning that many Republicans will not support the deal.

“While some have advocated for a ‘clean’ debt limit increase, this would simply increase the borrowing authority of the government while irresponsibly ignoring the urgency of reforms,” he wrote. “Worse yet is attaching the debt limit to legislation that continues the status quo or even worsens the trajectory on spending, such as the deal announced yesterday by the President and Congressional Leadership. The RSC Steering Committee opposes this proposal.”

Nevertheless, Speaker Ryan is unlikely to accept his terms, which include chipping further away at ObamaCare and a balanced budget amendment. In truth, moderate Republicans and Democrats could overcome the opposition.

The Labor Department said Thursday jobless claims surged in Texas by 50,000 after Hurricane Harvey, raising total claims to 298,000 for the week ending September 2. Claims were not estimated for Texas, but were for 6 other states.

This is the highest level for initial claims since April 18, 2015 when it was 298,000, representing an increase of 62,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level of 236,000. The four-week moving average was 250,250, an increase of 13,500 from the previous week’s unrevised average of 236,750.

No state was triggered “on” the Extended Benefits program during the week ending August 19.

Continuing claims were very low going into the hurricane, down 5,000 in lagging data for the August 26 week to 1.940 million. The four-week average came in at 1.948 million, the lowest showing since mid-June. The unemployment rate for insured employees is only 1.4%.

Harvey will not impact the monthly employment report for August, but will impact September.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending August 19 were in Puerto Rico (3.4), New Jersey (2.6), Connecticut (2.4), Pennsylvania (2.2), Alaska (2.1), California (2.0), Rhode Island (2.0), Massachusetts (1.9), Illinois (1.7), and New York (1.7).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending August 26 were in New York (+4,539), Indiana (+1,730), California (+976), Hawaii (+355), and Kentucky (+350), while the largest decreases were in Texas (-1,185), Georgia (-787), New Jersey (-697), Illinois (-645), and Florida (-437).

Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson refused to answer questions during a closed-door interview last month with the Senate Judiciary Committee. According to sources who spoke to Catherine Herridge at Fox News, he provided “useless” documents to congressional investigators.

The document was originally opposition research for unknown political rivals, widely believed to be Jeb Bush. Simpson, a former journalist at The Wall Street Journal, hired Christopher Steele, a former MI-6 British Intelligence Officer, who almost exclusively used sources linked to the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which Democrats widely circulated knowing it contained discredited information.

The source said Simpson and his lawyer Josh Levy provided thousands of “disrespectful” records to the committee, being that most were blank or press clippings. He also wanted an assurance the transcript would be kept “confidential,” and only made public after they reviewed it for accuracy and redactions were made.

This appears to conflict with a statement from Simpson’s team to MSNBC on the evening of Aug. 23, after the questioning was complete, saying, “The committee can release the transcript, if it so chooses.”

The Senate interview with Simpson was not under oath because the witness appeared voluntarily, but the same rules apply.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wanted to know if Steele was paid by Simpson’s firm Fusion GPS the dossier and FBI for the investigation of then-candidate Trump and his associates. Reports indicate the discredited dossier was used by former fired FBI Director James Comey to justify the anti-Trump probe, and allegedly offered him $50,000.

Mr. Comey considered the dossier so important that he insisted it be included in January’s final Intelligence Community Report on Russian meddling in the election. In fact, the debunked dossier was used as evidence when the FBI obtained a FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) warrant to monitor Carter Page, a low-level adviser to the Trump campaign.

Chairman Grassley hauled Mr. Simpson up to Capitol Hill after catching him in a lie about his availability. Mr. Levy, Mr. Simpson’s lawyer, had claimed he was unavailable and traveling overseas when the subpoena was issued on July 21.

However, Fox News found him at an Aspen security conference.

“Mr. Simpson told Congress the truth and cleared the record on many matters of interest to congressional investigators,” Fusion representative Tracy Schmaler said in a previous statement. “He also kept the identities of Fusion GPS’ clients confidential…Fusion GPS honors that commitment without exception – just as law firms and businesses do all over the country.”

Bill Browder, the CEO and co-founder of Hermitage Capital, publicly before the Senate Judiciary Committee in July that Fusion GPS was hired to conduct a smear campaign against Sergei Magnitsky and himself. Mr. Magnitsky, a Russian attorney and auditor, was tortured and murdered after he uncovered a money-laundering scheme in Russia.

The Justice Department (DOJ) alleged Prevezon Holdings, a company run by Russian businessman Denis Katsyv, benefited from the felonious scheme and targeted them in a civil asset forfeiture case. Mr. Katsyv retained Natalia Veselnitskaya, the very same woman and Russian attorney who sought a meeting at Trump Tower with Donald Trump Jr., his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-presidential campaign manager Paul Manafort.

In other words, Fusion GPS was working in support of Russian efforts to repeal the Magnitsky Act.

Mr. Browder also testified that he suspects Fusion GPS gives “incentives” to journalists who push stories for their “smear campaigns.” Senate Democrats initially used a rarely used parliamentary rule in an effort to block his testimony the day before.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott holds a press conference in advance of Hurricane Irma on Wednesday September 6, 2017.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott holds a press conference in advance of Hurricane Irma on Wednesday September 6, 2017.

Broward County has ordered a mandatory evacuation for coastal areas ahead of Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 and the strongest Atlantic Ocean hurricane ever recorded. Florida Gov. Rick Scott warned Irma could bring “significant storm surge” as it nears Florida, repeating it is stronger than Hurricane Andrew and has the potential to “devastate our state.”

Andrew was the last Category 5 storm to hit the state 25 years ago and it brought devastation. Hurricane Irma has reached maximum sustained winds of 185 mph — with gusts topping 200 mph — and is located about 15 miles west of Saint Martin and Anguilla, moving west-northwest at 16 mph.

Evacuations pertain to people who live east of Federal Highway and on barrier islands. It begins at noon on Thursday.

In a press conference at the county Governmental Center in Fort Lauderdale, Mayor Barbara Sharief said the county will open 14 shelters for those in the evacuation zones. All other county operations will be closed.

Mayor Sharief urged residents leaving the evacuation areas to first try and take shelter with friends in safer areas. She also urged employers to give their employees enough time to prepare for the storm.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced that the county will begin to evacuate special needs residents on Wednesday and they likely will begin to evacuate residents from zones A and B on Thursday. Zone A covers a huge swath of coastal Miami-Dade County, including Key Biscayne, while zone B covers Miami Beach.

Miami-Dade County public schools will also be closed Thursday and Friday.

Gov. Scott announced that he has activated an additional 900 members of the Florida National Guard and, by Friday morning, another 6,000 National Guard members will be reporting for duty across the Sunshine State.

“Do not focus on the exact path of this storm,” Gov. Scott said. “A storm of this size could have effects statewide and everyone must be prepared.”
