The Empire State Manufacturing Survey, the New York Federal Reserve’s gauge of manufacturing activity in the region, fell in January and missed expectations. However, manufacturing firms in New York State are optimistic about future business conditions.

The general business conditions index fell slightly from 7.6 to 6.5, though it remained positive for the third consecutive month. Readings above 0 point to expansion, while those below indicate contraction. The median forecast was expecting the reading to come in at 8.5.

The new orders index fell 7 points to 3.1, suggesting that orders increased at a slower clip than last month, and the shipments index held steady at 7.3, pointing to an ongoing increase in shipments. The unfilled orders index rose to -1.7, and the delivery time index rose to -2.5. The inventories index climbed 16 points to 2.5, signaling a slight increase in inventory levels—the first increase since mid-2015.

As previously stated, manufacturing firms in the region are still very optimistic about the future. Though the index for future business conditions was flat at 49.7, the reading matches a multiyear high hit last month in reaction to the surprise election of President-elect Donald J. Trump. Delivery times were expected to be longer, and inventories were expected to increase. The index for future employment and the future average workweek indicated that firms expected strong growth in employment and hours worked. The capital expenditures index climbed four points to 25.2, and the technology spending index edged up to 14.3.

However, current labor conditions are actually slightly worse than last month. The index for number of employees rose but held below zero at -1.7, an indication employment levels ticked down slightly; the average workweek index, at -4.2, pointed to a small decline in hours worked. Prices increased significantly this month. The prices paid index advanced fourteen points to 36.1, its highest level since 2014. The prices received index also climbed fourteen points, rising to 17.6, signaling a pickup in selling price increases.

Conservative talk radio host and editor-in-chief of LifeZette confirmed Tuesday she was “considering” a run for the U.S. Senate in Virginia in 2018. Ingraham, an early defender and supporter of President-elect Donald J. Trump, made the surprise statement during an interview on Fox and Friends, noting that “some well-connected people are very interested” in her potential candidacy.

“I haven’t made any decision yet,” Ms. Ingraham said. If she does decided, she would be challenging Democratic incumbent Sen. Time Kaine, the vice presidential running mate for Hillary Clinton.

“I did hear through the grapevine that Eric Cantor was thinking of running, so that would be an interesting primary.

Former Black Panther Mason Weaver ripped Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., for calling Donald Trump illegitimate and equated him to a woman with battered wife syndrome. Rep. Lewis is known among politicos as a civil rights leader who took a beating on March 7, 1965 when he and fellow activist Hosea Williams led over 600 marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.

Mr. Weaver noted Rep. Lewis took that beating from Democrats yet became their “stool.”

“He’s gotten rich, as black America has gotten more poor,” Mr. Mason said. “He’s gotten more powerful, as black America has gotten more poor.”

Omar Mateen, right, with his wife Noor Salman, left. Mateen, then-29, a radical Muslim born to Afghan parents, opened fire in a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing at least 50 people.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Monday arrested and charged the wife of the Islamic terrorist who shot up the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Noor Salman, 30, was charged with aiding and abetting her husband’s attempts to support the Islamic State (ISIS), as well as obstruction of justice.

In June 2016, a federal law enforcement source told People’s Pundit Daily that the FBI determined from interviews in the days following the massacre that Salman knew of her husband’s terrorist plans and did not alert authorities.

The attack, seen as the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, killed 49 people and wounded 53 more. Police shot and killed gunman Omar Mateen after a three-hour standoff, during which he made at least three calls to 911 and one to a local news service.

He pledged his allegiance to ISIS and expressed his support for Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Chechen brothers known as the Boston Marathon bombers.

The U.S. Department of Justice released the partial transcripts of Mateen’s 911 calls after the shooting. In one call, he said, “Praise be to God, and prayers as well as peace be upon the prophet of Allah [God]. I let you know, I’m in Orlando and I did the shootings.”

In an effort to politicize the event, Attorney General Loretta Lynch made the decision to alter the transcript to read, “Praise be to God, and prayers as well as peace be upon the prophet of God [in Arabic],” rather than use the word Mateen actually used–Allah.

Monica Crowley, President-elect Donald J. Trump’s choice for a top national security position in the White House, has relinquished the position. Her appointment had been dogged by charges of plagiarism by leftwing news outlets such as CNN and Politico.

Ms. Crowley, a contributor at Fox News and The Washington Times, was chosen by President-elect Trump for senior director of strategic communications for the National Security Council. She had worked under President Richard Nixon as his foreign policy assistant and communications director.

“After much reflection I have decided to remain in New York to pursue other opportunities and will not be taking a position in the incoming administration,” she said in a statement quoted by the Washington Times. “I greatly appreciate being asked to be part of President-elect Trump’s team and I will continue to enthusiastically support him and his agenda for American renewal.”

Despite ignoring proven instances of plagiarism surrounding then-Sen. Joe Biden, whom Barack Obama chose as his vice president, CNN has been scouring the background of President-elect Trump’s Cabinet picks. They found Ms. Crowley plagiarized thousands of words of her 2000 dissertation for her Columbia University Ph.D.

Further, the leftwing website Politico claimed it found more than a dozen examples of plagiarism in Crowley’s Ph.D. dissertation.

She would have worked under Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, retired Lt. General Michael Flynn. He said in a statement quoted by The Times that he will miss the opportunity to have Crowley on his team.

Ambulances rushing away from the scene of an attack in Istanbul, early Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.

The suspect in the terror attack at an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s that killed 39 was caught in the city after a manhunt lasting more than 2 weeks, the Hurriyet newspaper reported. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack at Reina nightclub, a popular upscale nightclub in the Ortakoy district that is frequented by local celebrities, including singers, actors and sports athletes.

The Aamaq News Agency said the attack was carried out by a “heroic soldier of the caliphate who attacked the most famous nightclub where Christians were celebrating their pagan feast.”

The man, who was reportedly operating under the cover name Abu Muhammed Horasani, was caught in a hideout with his four-year-old son, according to Hurriyet. The reports could not immediately be confirmed.

While the Islamic terrorist killed a policeman and another man outside the nightclub before entering, the attack appears to have targeted foreigners. Of the 600 people celebrating inside, nearly two-thirds of the dead were foreigners, though many of them were from the Middle East. In addition to the fatalities, roughly 70 others were wounded.

Horasani was described as being of Uzbek origin by the Haberturk website, which said he was caught at a housing complex in Esenyurt district, on the European side of the city. Reports claimed three people were in the apartment where he was caught and five people altogether were detained in the operation, including the alleged terrorist and three women.

The state-run Anadolu news agency said simultaneous raids were being conducted on other cells linked to the group.

With the increased number of terror attacks over the past year, security had been heightened in Turkish cities, with police barring traffic leading up to key squares in Istanbul and the capital Ankara. In Istanbul, alone, some 17,000 police officers were on duty at the time, some of them disguised as Santa Claus and others as street vendors.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the terrorist left a gun at the club and was able to escape by “taking advantage of the chaos” that followed the shooting. Authorities believe he changed his clothes before exiting the club. Some customers reportedly jumped into the freezing waters of the Bosporus to escape the hail of bullets. Sources tell People’s Pundit Daily that authorities believe the gunman comes from a Central Asian nation, likely Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan.

Obama-Guantanamo-Bay

OOman announced on Monday that it had taken in 10 Guantanamo Bay detainees released by the United States from the military detention center. The move is part of a push by outgoing President Barack Obama to close Gitmo, or at least shrink the population significantly  before leaving office.

“To meet a request by the U.S. government to assist in settling the issue of the detainees at Guantanamo, out of consideration of their humanitarian situation, 10 people released from that prison arrived in the Sultanate of Oman for a temporary residency,” a foreign ministry statement said.

In Feb. 2016, the Obama administration announced long-anticipated plan to close the U.S. detention center Bay in Cuba, despite public opinion and bipartisan opposition on Capitol Hill. He said it undermines national security and is contrary to American values, but intel reports indicate the recitivism rate, or the rate at which released detainees return to Islamic terrorism, is at least 30% and as high as 40%.

According to a report conducted in 2015, U.S. intel officials believe upwards of 20 to 30 Guantanamo Bay detainees released by the Obama administration in the prior few years alone have joined the Islamic State (ISIS). Even though the closure was a major 2008 campaign promise by Mr. Obama, the public at large does not agree with him on the issue.

A Gallup poll found just 29% of Americans support closing the terrorist detention camp and moving its prisoners to U.S. prisons, while 66% oppose doing so. The latest PPD Poll conducted in October 2015 found 31% supported closure and 62% opposed it. Both Gallup and PPD Poll find ideology is the most predictive factor when determining a respondent’s answer, not party preference or ID.

“The closing of Guantanamo Bay remains a radical left position in America,” says PPD’s senior political analyst, Richard Baris. “The anti-Guantanamo crowd is loud, but they have been in the minority since Obama first made the issue a central campaign promise in 2008. Even a majority of Democrats oppose that idea.”

Even though Republicans are more likely than Democrats to oppose closing Guantanamo Bay, the majority of Democrats remain opposed, leaving a small fringe element on the left a tiny minority. In the latest Gallup poll, Democrats offered their lowest level of support since 2007, when the question was first posed to Americans. Now, just 41% of the president’s own party support him and the radical left, while 54% oppose them.

With the latest transfer to Oman, there are now fewer than 50 detainees left at Gitmo, down from 242 when Mr. Obama succeeded former President George W Bush.

Russia announced it will upgrade its facilities in Syria to handle increased naval and air traffic, as well as make them permanent facilities. The move comes as Moscow looks to as cement its hold on the Middle Eastern country it supported in its civil war.

The naval base at Tartus, long a Soviet, and Russian base, will be upgraded to handle larger ships such as cruisers. The Hmeimin air base, near Latakia, will be upgraded with a second usable runway, reports Interfax News Agency.

Russia will still deploy S-300 surface-to-air defense systems and Bastion coastal missile launchers in Tartus.

The Syria infrastructure will play an important role for the Russian military as its only access in the Mediterranean. This importance obviously played a major role in Putin’s decision to intervene in the Syrian Civil War supporting Assad in order to save the facilities for the Russian air force and navy.
