We are used to Friday document dumps and the follow-on attempts to minimize the political damage. However, the Obama administration has taken the manipulation of the election news cycle to a whole new global level.

Obviously the release of the Trump hot-mic tape was designed to counter the horrendous damage the WikiLeaks email dump would inflict on Hillary, that is if anyone now reads the emails. I had to listen to CNN for an hour this morning and they didn’t mention them once. Not surprising.

However, the Trump tape was not the only White House chicanery designed to counter the Crooked Hillary news cycle. The administration formerly accused Russia of interfering in the U.S. election, coincidentally within a few hours of the WikiLeaks release.

The Kremlin was not amused. A statement on Saturday released by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov read, “This whipping up of emotions regarding ‘Russian hackers’ is used in the U.S. election campaign, and the current U.S. administration, taking part in this fight, is not averse to using dirty tricks,” reported Reuters.

I have no doubt Russia is involved in cyber attacks against the United States, as I am sure the NSA is against Russia. However, in this instance, it seems the Kremlin may have a point. It was the White House that released this accusation publicly in order to attempt to alter the election outcome.

It seems to me the DNC and the White House, if they had any honor, would be embarrassed at how easily American critical infrastructure was compromised eight years into the Obama presidency. You can’t blame this one on George W. Bush, but that doesn’t stop them from trying. The problem is not that the Russians are hacking, of course they are, the problem is that due to the Obama administration’s extreme incompetence, they can.

Melania Trump, wife of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, responded to lewd comments made by her husband revealed in a leaked audio from 2005. The New York businessman was talking with Billy Bush in 2005, then of “Access Hollywood,” while on a bus arriving on the set of “Days of Our Lives” to tape a segment about his upcoming cameo on the soap opera.

“The words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me,” Mrs. Trump said in a statement. “This does not represent the man that I know. He has the heart and mind of a leader. I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world.”

Billy Bush, the nephew of President George H.W. Bush and cousin to President George W. Bush, was also making what most found to be inappropriate comments. Both men have since apologized for their remarks 11 years ago, which were only now published by Clinton-friendly The Washington Post mere hours before WikiLeaks was scheduled to release damaging documents on Hillary Clinton.

What the Trump campaign’s ground game is lacking in size juxtaposed to the Clinton campaign, it might be making up for in sophistication and coordination. The Republican National Committee (RNC) and state party organizations are “working hand in glove” with the Trump campaign to post big voter registration gains in key battleground states.

After completely revamping their GOTV, or get out the vote, which was in large part responsible for the GOP wave in the 2014 midterm elections, the RNC has been been capitalizing on something Democrats have been lacking–huge turnout at Trump rallies.

“Our ground game is working hand in glove with the Trump campaign to complement their operation,” RNC Political Director Chris Carr said on a conference call. “The RNC is doing most of the heavy lifting for the Trump campaign to get voters to the polls this year.”

Director Carr said the ability to capitalize on voter enthusiasm and the resulting registration gains are attributable to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’s decision to start building “a completely new field organization back in 2013.” In 2012, GOP nominee Mitt Romney was soundly defeated on the ground by President Barack Obama in the battleground states.

“For several years the RNC has been building a national, permanent ground game, and keeping organizers in key states working to engage, register, and turn out voters while building our data file,” he said. “The fact that the GOP has been in the field permanently for years means we have had a tremendous head start on the Clinton campaign and are still in the lead. “Before Clinton had staff focused on the general election, the RNC’s staff, organizers, and volunteers had tallied well over 1.2 million hours of organizing. That’s the equivalent to 50,000 days, or 137 years of organizing.”

In Florida, a must-win state for Mr. Trump, Republicans have put in nearly 335,000 more requests for absentee ballots this year than they did in 2012. At the time of the conference call, Republicans held a sizeable lead with 84,435 absentee ballot request advantage over the Democrats. That lead has grown to 87,597 as of Saturday. Overall, the RNC has seen a net gain of 261,715 in voter registration in a state Gov. Romney lost by roughly 70,000 votes.

In Iowa, a state Mr. Obama won by 6 points and where Democrats traditionally top Republicans, the GOP outpaced their rivals by nearly 5,000 ballots on Wednesday. While they still trail overall, it’s now a clear trend that Democrats are underperforming among absentee ballots requested juxtaposed to 2012. The Hawkeye State, where Mr. Trump still holds a sizable lead in the average of polls, is one of three where Republicans out registered Democrats during the month of September, along with Pennsylvania and New Mexico.

“Democrat requests are 51% smaller than at this time in 2012,” Mr. Carr said.

The RNC has also managed to turn the tide in Michigan. Based on RNC Data, Republicans have now built a 59,000 absentee ballot request margin, outpacing Democrat daily requests by an average of 1,642 per day for the past two weeks in the Wolverine State and a reversal in the trend from the previous two weeks where Democrats were leading.

2012 v. 2016 Voter Registration

  • Florida Net:  +261,715
  • Iowa Net:  +38,913
  • Nevada Net:  +12,720
  • North Carolina Net:  +173,785
  • Pennsylvania Net:  +223,552

North Carolina and Pennsylvania now make up the Clinton campaign’s new firewall, the former being one of only two states Gov. Romney managed to flip in 2012. But Republicans out-requested Democrats by a margin of 1,902 during the final 3 days ending the week, which increased their overall advantage in the Tar Heel State.

In Pennsylvania, Republicans have gained ground in 11 of the past 14 days to tear further into the Democratic advantage. It is now less than 1,000 in the Keystone State, in which Mr. Trump runs ahead of prior nominees and has made a major play. No Republican has carried the state since 1988. In September alone, Republicans added nearly 30,000 new voters to the roles.

Mr. Carr also touted another new asset the RNC launched for voter registration–the website vote.gop–in-house, “one stop shop website” where voters get all the information they need to register, request an absentee ballot or commit to vote. The site and technology allows the party to track what steps potential registrants have taken to vote, something they believe gives them an advantage.

“We have a great advantage over the Democrats’ equivalent website,” he said. “The Dems’ website redirects users to various state portals to complete their registration. Ours keeps everything in house and we can be of much greater help to the user and establishes stronger ‘chase universes.'”

In the world of digital big data, chase universe is a fancy way of characterizing their ability to follow up with users.

“Ultimately we are going to keep our foot on the gas and continue our work of engaging voters, building relationships with them, registering them to vote, and making sure they come out to vote Republican up and down the ticket on November 8th,” he added.

One (hopefully endearing) trait of being a policy wonk is that I have a weakness for jurisdictional rankings. At least if they’re methodologically sound.

This is why I was so happy a couple of weeks ago when I got to peruse and analyze the 2016 version of Economic Freedom of the World (even if the results for America were rather depressing).

Heck, sometimes I even can’t resist commenting on methodologically unsound rankings, such as the profoundly stupid “Happy Planet Index” that puts despotic hellholes such as Cuba and Venezuela above the United States.

Given my interest in rankings, you can appreciate how excited I am that my colleague at Cato, Chris Edwards, just unveiled the 2016 version of his Fiscal Policy Report Card on America’s Governors and that the Tax Foundation just released its annual State Business Tax Climate Index. It’s sort of like Christmastime for me.

Here’s the big news from Chris’ Report Card. As a Virginia resident, I’m not terribly happy the Governor McAuliffe scores a D (not that his GOP predecessor was any good). It’s also perhaps somewhat newsworthy that Governor Pence earned an A (so he seems committed to smaller government even if the guy he’s paired with doesn’t share the same philosophy).

And here’s the Tax Foundation’s map showing each state’s ranking, with top-10 states in blue and bottom-10 states in light orange.

If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that zero-income-tax states are disproportionately represented among the states with the best scores.

All this is quite interesting (at least to me), but it occurred to me that it might be even more illuminating to somehow meld these two rankings together.

After all, Chris’s Report Card is a measure of whether a state is moving in the right direction or wrong direction while the Tax Foundation is more of a comparative measure of how a state ranks at a given point in time compared to other states.

So I created the following matrix that looks only at the states that received A or F in the Cato Report Card and also were either in the top 10 or bottom 10 of the Tax Foundation Index.

As you might guess, the best place to be is in the top-left portion of the matrix since that shows a state that is both moving in the right direction while also having a very competitive tax system. So kudos to Florida and Indiana (with honorable mention for North Carolina, which received an A in the Cato Report Card but just missed cracking the top 10 in the Tax Foundation Index).

The bad news, if you look at the bottom-left quadrant, is that there are three states with good tax systems but bad governors. South Dakota, Oregon, and Nevada are in strong shape today, but it’s hard to be optimistic about those states preserving their lofty rankings since policy is moving in the wrong direction.

And the worst place to be is the bottom-right quadrant, which means that a state has both a bad tax system and a bad policy environment.

Last but not least, the sad news is that the top-right quadrant is empty, which means there aren’t any bad states moving aggressively in the right direction.

So the bottom line is that American citizens should think about moving to Florida and Indiana. Especially if they live in Vermont, California, or Connecticut.

P.S. It would be even better to move to Monaco, Hong Kong, or the Cayman Islands, but those presumably aren’t very practical options for most of us.

P.P.S. Actually, the best place for an American taxpayer to live is Puerto Rico since it’s a legal tax haven.

“I said it. I was wrong and I apologize.”

Billy Bush, the nephew of President George H.W. Bush and cousin to President George W. Bush, was also making what most found to be inappropriate comments.

“Governor Mike Pence will be representing me tomorrow in Wisconsin,” Trump said in a statement before the video. “I will be spending the day in New York in debate prep with RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Jeff Sessions, and then flying to St. Louis on Sunday for the 2nd Presidential Debate.”

He was scheduled to campaign with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., but the speaker pulled out of the appearance. People’s Pundit Daily has not yet confirmed whether he’ll appear with Gov. Pence or not.

Democrat Hillary Clinton said in a leaked paid speech to Brazilian bankers that her “dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open markets.” The comments were made to Banco Itaú was a former Brazilian bank that merged with Unibanco on November 4, 2008, to form Itaú Unibanco.

“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders,” Mrs. Clinton told the Latin American bankers.

The transcripts of Mrs. Clinton’s paid speeches were made public for the first time on Friday when WikiLeaks published thousands of hacked emails from John Podesta, the Clinton campaign chairman, revealing her comments to big banks after she left the State Department in 2013. The email below was to Mr. Podesta and other senior officials from research director Tony Carrk. They cite the “flags” to the Harry Walker Agency and note how they need to be scrubbed.

They are in direct conflict with her newfound opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Republican nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Mrs. Clinton of wanting open borders and lying about her opposition to TPP, which she called “the gold standard” of trade deals. Further, during the Democratic primary, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on several occasions asked Mrs. Clinton to release the transcripts of the speeches, which were delivered to investment banks like Goldman Sachs.

Mrs. Clinton said on the campaign trail and in debates she would “look into” releasing the transcripts, though she never did. She also told the National Multi-Housing Council that she has two different positions on policy, a public and private position.

“I mean, politics is like sausage being made. It is unsavory, and it always has been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be,” she said. “But if everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least. So, you need both a public and a private position.”

*“So I think that Keystone is a contentious issue, and of course it is important on both sides of the border for different and sometimes opposing reasons, but that is not our relationship. And I think our relationship will get deeper and stronger and put us in a position to really be global leaders in energy and climate change if we worked more closely together. And that’s what I would like to see us do.” [Remarks at tinePublic, 6/18/14] *Hillary Clinton Said Her Dream Is A Hemispheric Common Market, With Open Trade And Open Markets.

*Hillary Clinton Said We Have To Have A Concerted Plan To Increase Trade; We Have To Resist Protectionism And Other Kinds Of Barriers To Trade.

*“Secondly, I think we have to have a concerted plan to increase trade already under the current circumstances, you know, that Inter-American Development Bank figure is pretty surprising. There is so much more we can do, there is a lot of low hanging fruit but businesses on both sides have to make it a priority and it’s not for governments to do but governments can either make it easy or make it hard and we have to resist, protectionism, other kinds of barriers to market access and to trade and I would like to see this get much more attention and be not just a policy for a year under president X or president Y but a consistent one.” [05162013 Remarks to Banco Itau.doc, p. 32]

“It’s no excuse, but this happened eleven years ago — I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry,” Bush said in a statement.

But his comments, at least those on the tape, are not as embarrassing as those out of the Republican nominee. The Bush family now Mr. Trump’s political rivals.

“I’ve got to use some Tic Tacs, just in case I start kissing her,” Trump says. “You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait.”

“And when you’re a star, they let you do it,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”

“Whatever you want,” says another voice, apparently Bush’s.

“Grab them by the p—y,” Trump says. “You can do anything.”

A spokeswoman for NBC Universal, which produces and distributes “Access Hollywood,” declined to comment.

Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. (Photo: AP/Associated Press)

It’s all becoming clear now. If you look back at the actions of the Obama administration, especially Hillary Clinton, and connect the dots, it starts to make sense. The question is, will it be too late to save the Republic?

In a very insightful article by General Mike Flynn titled “Why Hillary’s record on Libya is even worse than you think,” he lays out the case that Hillary, as Secretary of State, knowingly funded jihadis in Libya after meeting with Gulf kingdoms and tens of millions of dollars flowed into the Clinton Foundation. That is what the Benghazi cover-up was all about, to prevent this information from becoming known.

Hillary Clinton sold out the United States and armed those who wanted to kill us to do the bidding of Saudi kings. In the process, she allowed four great Americans to die rather than the truth be known. In her own words, “What difference does it make?” She is out for power and money, not the best interests of this country. She has proven that over and over. But it’s worse than that.

She engineered the overthrow of secular rulers in the Middle East in favor of religious fanatics like the Muslim Brotherhood; it was another phase of this agenda, all guided by her seditious advisor Huma Abedin. Now the administration is filling America with Muslim refugees. Hillary wants to ramp up those efforts exponentially.

What is happening is nothing short of an invasion of our country allowed by those who were supposed to be protecting us. The constant discoveries of illegal immigrants committing voter fraud is another facet of this agenda, promoted, aided, and abetted by the Obama administration. It is an infiltration of Wahhabism into the United States, again, funded by the Saudis.

There are many questions that go unanswered. Why hasn’t Obama seriously gone after the Islamic State? Why does he downplay Islamic terrorism at every turn? Why are the refugees admitted from the Middle East 99.5 % Muslim, when Christians have literally been subjected to genocide in Syria and surrounding areas? Why did Obama appease and give Iran everything it wanted? Why did Obama pull all our troops out of the Middle East and allow ISIS to form in the first place?

The institutions of government that are supposed to protect us from this type of onslaught have been compromised. Can you think of one institution of government that has not been corrupted by this presidency?

There is evil among us. It has shown itself.

A vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to destroy the United States as we know it. It will be over. She will put the final nails in the coffin and jet off to her globalist masters in the end. A radical, socialist form of Islam will overrun the United States. Dinesh D’Souza didn’t know how prescient he was when he proclaimed a United States of Islam in the Middle East as Obama’s goal. What he didn’t realize is that it would be extended to the West as well.

It’s that simple. All I can say is if you value your children’s future, register and get out to vote, or just submit to your new masters.

The Labor Department reported on Friday the U.S. economy added 156,000 jobs in September, significantly below the median forecast for 175,000 jobs. The unemployment rate rose to 5.0%, which was expected to remain unchanged at 4.9%.

The increase in the unemployment rate was largely the result of Hispanic unemployment, which increased to 6.4% in September. The unemployment rates for adult men (4.7%), adult women (4.4%), teenagers (15.8%), Whites (4.4%), Blacks (8.3%), and Asians (3.9%) showed little or no change.

Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate rose just slightly to 62.9%, while the less-cited but arguably more important employment-population ratio, at 59.8%, was relatively unchanged.

Though they don’t always track together, the Labor Department report conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) mirrored the private sector ADP National Employment Report. Both showed job gains were largely in low-paying sectors. As a result, there were little wage and workweek gains in the month of September.

Retail trade employment continued to trend up over the month (+22,000), including clothing and clothing accessories stores (+14,000) and in gasoline stations (+8,000). Over the year, employment in retail trade increase by 317,000. Employment in food services and drinking places continued to add jobs (+30,000) and has increased by 300,000 over the year.

The average workweek for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls increased by an abysmal 0.1 hour to 34.4 hours. In manufacturing, the workweek also increased by 0.1 hour to 40.7 hours, while overtime was unchanged at 3.3 hours. The average workweek for production and nonsupervisory employees on private nonfarm payrolls was unchanged at 33.5 hours. Wages rose by just 6 cents to $25.79. Over the year, average hourly earnings have risen by 2.6%.

Average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees increased by just 5 cents to $21.68.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami said Hurricane Matthew weakened slightly to a Category 3 storm as it approached Florida, but continues to pose a threat. The storm, which is the most powerful in more than a decade, continues to threaten the peninsula with winds upward of 120 mph and dangerous storm surges.

“We’re very concerned about Jacksonville,” Gov. Rich Scott said at a press conference in Daytona Beach Friday morning. “There’s potential for devastation there.”

He said he denied a request to reinstate fees on toll roads.

UPDATE: As of Friday morning, officials say more than 500,000 are without power.

Forecasters said Hurricane Matthew will likely continue to hug the coast of Georgia and South Carolina over the weekend before heading out to sea. It is possible for it to even loop back toward Florida in the middle of next week as a tropical storm. On Thursday, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, at the request of the state’s governors. The declaration frees up federal money and personnel to assist with crisis management.

The death toll from Hurricane Matthew has soared to over 300 in Haiti, including “several dozen” in one coastal town on the country’s southwestern peninsula, local officials tell Reuters. In Florida, officials say one elderly woman has died from cardiac arrest after she decided to stay behind and could not get the emergency medical help she required, a scenario Gov. Scott had warned Floridians about for days.
