Much to the chagrin of the once – and dying to again be – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi D-CA, as it stands right now regarding the 2014 midterm election, the GOP House majority is not going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, in the same manner the GOP is experiencing electoral challenges on the national level, the Democrats are plagued on the congressional, state, and local levels.

In the wake of revelations about the federal government’s surveillance programs, FBI Director Robert Mueller defended the programs based on the collection of millions of U.S. phone records, emails and other information that people transmit online as being vital to the nation’s national security.

Americans’ confidence in Congress as an institution is down to 10%, which is the legislative body’s lowest ranking the and last on Gallup’s list of 16 societal institutions for the fourth straight year. Incredibly, this is the lowest level of confidence Gallup has found, not only for Congress, but for any institution on record. Americans remain most confident – 76% – in the institution that is the United States military.

Well this is a bit unsurprising, but absurd nonetheless given that the Obama administration decided to make the sale of arms to Egypt now exceed arms to Israel. In the meeting with the Egyptian politicians, they claim that their “war is with America and Israel not Ethiopia.”

Daniel J. Mitchell, columnist and economic scholar at the CATO Institute, was in Vienna for the annual European Resource Bank meeting. During a speech about the economic reform in Chile, specifically the system of personal retirement accounts, Mr. Pinera shared a chart that “conclusively shows why good economic policy makes a difference,” as Mitchell put it.
