I have always been of the mind that the GOP needs to win the argument and not restrict immigration South of the border just because the Democrats are better at campaign messaging. However, that does not necessary mean that we should blatantly ignore policy implications from immigration reform proposals.
President Obama is speeding toward lame duck status faster than most American second term presidents. In fact, he may already be a lame duck. The Toomey-Manchin compromise was defeated in the Senate, the Boston Marathon bombing has put a serious damper on immigration reform, and the Benghazi whistleblowers…
The devil is in the details. At least that is what I keep hearing. The announcement from the Senate that the bi–partisan coalition reached a principled agreement on immigration reform sparked a reaction that I must admit, puzzled me.
Ann Coulter wrote a column in which she described the proposal as a “Path to Oblivion” for the GOP. Ann and others claim this proposal is nothing less than total amnesty and cautioned conservatives that we will be sealing our electoral fate. Her alternative is, in essence, to wait until the political pendulum “swings” back to the right.
