The House voted Friday to keep the government open through mid-December but only if Congress strips funding from ObamaCare. The vote was 230 to 189, and largely expected. A test vote on Thursday cleared the measure by 230 – 192, with a few more House members voting “yes” in the real vote.
The latest NBC/WSJ poll – in which, Americans 2 – 1 oppose raising the debt ceiling – couldn’t have been released at a more opportune time, save for yesterday when I originally posted the article.
Happy U.S. Credit Rating Downgrade Day! Two years ago today, Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. credit rating and, not surprisingly, it hasn’t recovered since. Despite 2012 campaign rhetoric and the liberal-media narrative, the downgrade occurred because the President and Congress failed to resolve the long-term spending and debt crisis. Within that time period, the President has failed to lead, hasn’t proposed any significant reforms, and the situation is even worse.
Heritage is responding to the ridiculous claim by the Washington Post that the national debt is no longer an issue, or as they deemed it, “the national debt is no longer growing out of control.” Lawmakers and liberals living inside the bubble that is the Washington Beltway are floating the notion that the $17 trillion in national debt is no longer a high priority any more. But the Heritage foundation is firing back:
