At first I was cautious. Then, I evolved into skeptical. But now that the prosecution has rested their case in the George Zimmerman trial, I am flat-out disgusted at what clearly has been exposed as the worst racial prosecution since Jim Crow. If we recap Friday’s testimony, the prior testimony from witnesses called by the State Attorney’s office, then we will come to only one two-fold conclusion:

The Labor Department released the June jobs report, which reports that nonfarm payrolls jumped by 195,000 in June, coming in well above expectations of 165,000. The May job increase was also revised higher by 20,000 to 195,000. The unemployment rate held steady at 7.6%, compared to economists’ expectations that it would fall to 7.5%. The labor force participation rate rose in June to 63.5% from 63.4% in May. U.S. stock-index futures extended gains on the back of the report.

Oct. 22, 1978: Pope John Paul II blesses the faithful in St. Peter’s Square from a Vatican City balcony right after he was named Pontiff. A Vatican official says Pope John Paul II has cleared the final obstacle before being made a saint. A commission of cardinals and bishops reportedly met Tuesday, July 2, 2013 to consider the case and signed off on it, leaving only Pope Francis to approve it. A Vatican official confirmed that the decision had been taken some time back and that Tuesday’s meeting was essentially a formality. (AP)

DEVELOPING:  Pope Francis has cleared former Pope John Paul II for sainthood, approving a miracle attributed to his intercession.

I joined Tom Purcell for the 4th of July Special Edition of Liberty Never Sleeps radio show to talk about my new book Our Virtuous Republic: The Forgotten Clause in the American Social Contract. Tom was spot on with his discussion of the Declaration of Independence, the sacrifices our Founding Fathers made for their beliefs, and the meaning of the Fourth of July, or Independence Day.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:

Egypt’s top military commander says the army is now in full control of the country and President Mohammed Morsi has been replaced by the chief justice of the constitutional court as the interim head of state.

Egypt’s military vowed to defend the country’s people against any “terrorist, radical or fool” as it is just hours ahead of its deadline for President Mohammed Morsi to resolve the nation’s political crisis – or face intervention by the Egyptian military army. A post on the official Facebook page of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which is headed by Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, read:

We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.
