Michigan native and conservative musician Ted Nugent sang a song of praise for John James, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in The Wolverine State. Speaking to the Don Smith Show during an interview that aired Saturday, the rocker best known for his advocacy of gun ownership rights, said Mr. James “represents We the People.”
“John James represents We the People,” Mr. Nugent said. “He represents the best of the best and we pray to God he can reverse the liberal agenda.”
“So, God Bless the man for making the sacrifices and running for public office in these trying times.”
Mr. Nugent was born in Redford, Michigan, and raised in metropolitan Detroit, as was Mr. James, which the controversial rocker called “my beloved” “hell zone.”
“It went in a catastrophic nosedive of liberal mediocrity, if not downright slovenliness, and it broke our hearts those of us who loved the spirit of real Detroit, the real spirit of Michigan. And John James represents that real spirit. That real working hard, playing hard and be the best you can be spirit.”
Mr. James faces an uphill battle in November against incumbent Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow, who is viewed as a rather weak candidate. However, her war chest is huge and incumbent U.S. Senators are not easily toppled. The U.S. Senate election projection in Michigan is Likely Democrat.
